MUSCAT: Team Coorg Muscat upset Oman Veterans 3-0 in an exciting final to lift the 73rd Independence Day of India Cup which was held at the iconic Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Baushar.
The 14thedition of the annual hockey fiesta, organized by the Friends of Naqvi Group and Team Coorg under the patronage of Embassy of India and with the support of Oman Hockey Association, turned out to be a memorable affair.
The colourful event which was held under the auspices of Chief Guest HE Munu Mahawar, the Indian Ambassador to Oman along with Guest of Honour HE Dr. Hammad Al Ghafri, the Advisor to the Ministry of Civil Services and the founder chairman of the Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) and Hockey legend veteran S.A.S. Naqvi.

The tournament saw all four teams namely UTSC Muscat, Team Coorg Muscat, Ahli Sidab Veterans and Oman Veterans clashing with each other in the preliminary round with the top two teams Team Coorg Muscat and UTSC entering the final.
While the day’s proceedings included a number of cultural events, the highlights obviously were two hockey tournaments – the Indepence Day Cup and Ambassador’s cup. The Indian School Mabelah’s boys team produced some exciting hockey before lifting the Ambassador’s Cup beating Indian School Al Wadi Al Kabir 1-0, meanwhile, the girls team from ndian School Seeb beat Indian School Mabelah to lift the coveted trophy.
