Muscat: The Omani student who is missing in Australia has not left the country, Sultanate’s Consular General has informed.

In a statement, Dr Hamoud bin Amer Al-Wardi, the Consul General said that the 28-year-old Aisha Bint Salem Al Ghaithi is within the country and the authorities are searching for the girl. “In the morning, we received confirmation from the Immigration Service that the student did not leave Australia,”

On Sunday, the Consulate of Oman in Australia had informed that Aisha, a student at the University of Queensland, was reported missing by the college after she failed to return to classes following a midterm break.

The consulate added that the last reported communication with her family was over a month ago.

Meanwhile, in a statement issued online on Monday, the Ministry of Education urged people not to spread rumours and emphasised that the safety of the missing student is now a top priority.
