MUSCAT:  Oman’s Public Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulance (PACDA) has asked people not to touch electrical devices with wet hands and to be cautious while using them, as fires in residential buildings are on the in Oman.

According to a data issued by PACDA, there is an increase in residential fires in 2018 compared to the previous years. “There were 1100 residential fires in 2016, 1234 in 2017, and this number has increased to 1335 fires in residential areas in 2018.”

With temperatures rising in many areas in Oman due to summer, this figure is expected to increase.

“These fires can be caused by faulty wiring, overloading electricity ports, and leaving electrical equipment on for a long time or not servicing them,” the statement added.
