Mwasalat temporarily suspends Muscat-Dubai service following fatal accident

Mwasalat said the decision to suspend operations was taken after coordinating with the Road and Transport Authority in Dubai.

MUSCAT: Mwasalat has suspended its Muscat-Dubai service following the fatal Thursday bus accident that killed 17 people near Rashidiya exit on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road in Dubai. 

In a statement issued, Mwasalat said the decision to suspend operations was taken after coordinating with the Road and Transport Authority in Dubai. “Our trips from Muscat-Dubai, and vice versa, will be suspended from today (Thursday) until further notice,” the statement said.

On Thursday, around 5:40pm, a Mwasalat bus carrying 31 passengers on board rammed into a signboard killing 15 people on spot. Two passengers later died at the hospital. 

Mwasalat crash in Dubai: death toll rises to 17

According to Gulf News, a preliminary investigation into the accident revealed the crash happened after the driver wrongly entered a road not designated for buses towards Al Rashidiya metro station. The bus crashed into a height barrier, which slashed the rear window, cut into the left side of the bus and killed passengers sitting on that side.
