MUSCAT: By 2020, around 26,000 direct jobs will be generated in the tourism sector with the construction of several hotels and resorts, Ahmed bin Nasser Al Mehrzi, Minister of Tourism, said.
Addressing the members of the Majlis Al Shura on Thursday, the Minister said the hotel projects which are under construction in 2019 and 2020 will include 6,552 rooms and hotel apartments, and this will provide job opportunities to 4,586 people.
“Our tourism development strategy is on right track,” Mehrzi said.

The minister also informed that a total of OMR19 billion will be invested in the tourism sector by 2040.

“In this, 55 percent of the investment will go to building hotels and resorts, 41 percent will be dedicated to tourism infrastructure, 3 percent of tourist experiences system while the remaining one percent will be used for administrative investments,” he added.
