MUSCAT: Popular Indian social activist P.M. Jabir has been nominated as a member of the Kerala Non-Resident Indians (NRI) Commission.

The commission is a statutory body constituted under the Non-Resident Indian (Keralites) Commissions Act, 2016, for the welfare of non-resident Keralites working outside India.

Jabir, known as the ‘man behind the scenes’ and popularly referred to as people’s champion, more so for the Indian expatriate community in Oman, had bid adieu to the country that was his home for four long decades.

Speaking to The Arabian Stories, Jabir expressed his gratitude to the Kerala government for nominating him into the commission that is headed by Justice (Retired) PD Rajan. “Its truly an honour to represent the Kerala Non-Resident Indians Commission. I have lived all my life serving and helping the needy in Oman and I am more than happy to continue serving the people,” Jabir added.

Among the other members in the commission include Peter Mathew, Advocate and Gafoor Lillis.
