LONDON : The coronation ceremony of Charles III as the King of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and Head of the Commonwealth began with a ceremonial procession from the Buckingham Palace.

The ceremony itself is being held at Westminster Abbey in London, which has staged all the country’s coronations since William the Conqueror back in 1066, in the presence of representatives and presidents of more than 200 countries, including the US first lady Jill Biden, as well as elite representatives of the British people. King Charles and his second wife Camilla, who will be crowned as the Queen, arrived in the Diamond Jubilee State Coach accompanied by The Sovereign’s Escort of Household Cavalry.

Being coronated at 74, King Charles III will be the oldest British monarch to have the 360-year-old St Edward’s Crown placed on his head as he sits upon the 14th-century throne at London’s Westminster Abbey.
