MUSCAT: There is an increase in home-based businesses run by locals in the country, according to the data provided by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) shows.
According to MoCI data, there is a 12.4 per cent growth in eight months this year. Around, 1,180 businesses registered from January 1 to August 31 this year as compared to 1,049 during the same period last year.
Incense-based product-making activities were the most registered (631) under home businesses. The others include: tailoring female dresses (216), cake, pies and tart baking (22), bread-baking (26), fast-food (15), fig, grape and date product packaging (14), abaya tailoring (19), bread products (3), beauty and hair dressing (80), catering (16), gift-wrapping (21), biscuit-making (10), dress and footwear rentals (32), perfume-making (38), event-organising (11), pastry-making (7), manufacturing frankincense oil (3), plant and flower retail (7) and document writing (8).

MoCI stated that such home-based activities are a big support in increasing family income and preparing citizens to expand their avenues and transform these activities into SMEs in future.
