Weather alert: heavy thundershowers expected in Oman

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has issued a weather alert to inform public about the expected thunderstorms in most governorates of the country

MUSCAT: In an online announcement, the CAA stated that heavy thundershowers were expected over governorates of Musandam, North Al Batinah, Al Buraimi and Al Dhahira, which may range between 30 mm to 80 mm (within 24 hours), extending gradually, during the afternoon and evening, over governorates of South Al Batinah, Al Dakhylia, Muscat, South Al Sharqiya and North Al Sharqiya ; later at night over governorates of Al Wusta and Dhofar.

The Authority advices everyone to take precautions during thundershowers and not cross wadis; avoid low land areas and not venture out to sea during the alert period.

Expected impacts during the alert period include overflow of wadis in some areas; thundershowers are occasionally accompanied with downdraft and hail. There will be reduction in horizontal visibility during thundershowers and sea waves will range from moderate to rough, with maximum height of 1.5 meters to 3 meters along most of the coasts.
