MUSCAT: Belgian Champion Tim Merlier who made his debut for Soudal Quick-Step won the first stage of Tour of Oman on Saturday.
Merlier who has scored a staggering 65 wins since 2003 in the Middle East, including a memorable victory at the World Team Time Trial Championships held in Qatar, back in 2016.
“I’m a 11 days father so I wanted to celebrate the birth of my son. It’s important to win early in the season,” Merlier said after the thrilling win.
