MUSCAT : The Ministry of Interior has published the conditions that need to be met by a candidate for the candidacy for membership in the Shura Council at its next session.
Firstly, the candidate must be an Omani in the original capacity, and his age must not be less than 30 years at the opening of the nomination. He must be registered in the electoral register in the state from which he is nominated. The candidate’s educational qualification must not be less than the general education diploma. The candidate can not be affiliated with a security or military authority, and must not be confined to it by a judicial ruling. The candidate can not be someone with a mental illness. Lastly, the candidate must not be someone who has been previously convicted of a felony in a crime against honour or honesty, even if he is now rehabilitated.
These conditions must be met by the candidate the day before the opening of the candidacy. The Ministry has further clarified that those whose membership has expired may run for membership in the Council again.
