NRI remittances jumped 12% to record $100 billion in 2022: Finance Minister

India became the first country in the world to receive $100 billion worth of remittances in 2022.

NEW DELHI: India witnessed a 12 per cent rise in remittances to $100 billion in 2022, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said during the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) convention in Indore, Madhya Pradesh.

“I recognise that remittances, which come from abroad by Indians who migrated, are about 100 billion US dollars for the year 2022. This is one of the highest remittances which is coming,” she said.

Remittances denote the money transfers made by NRIs to their kin in India, and equal 3 percent of the country’s GDP.
