MUSCAT : The Sultanate of Oman’s delegation includes the first three winners of the Falling Walls Lab competition held at national level; they are innovators Maira bint Ahmed Al Qaidi and Dr. Faisal Bin Rashid Al Marzuqi, and Engineer Emad Bin Abdullah Alobiadoon.

Maira earlier won first place in the local competition and participated with her project ‘Breaking the Wall of Unsustainable Wastewater Quality Monitor’ at the global Falling Walls Lab Finale, which included around 80 participants from all over the world.

She also attended the Falling Walls Science Summit that included many lectures and training sessions in cooperation with several scientific institutions in Germany in conjunction with the Berlin Science Week.

Dr. Faisal bin Rashid Al Marzuqi participated with his ‘Breaking the Wall of Sea Water to Sustainable Water’ project, which is a new and innovative way to produce water without relying on traditional sources of energy and electricity; the method relies on sunlight with the help of nanometer thermal catalysts.

Imad bin Abdullah Alobiadoon is participating with his project ‘Breaking the Wall of MOFs (Metal-organic frameworks) for Climate Change’, to break the wall of the organic metal frame and climate change, where metal frames are modern materials that work to capture gases that affect climate change, including carbon dioxide, methane, and others, and turn them into environmentally friendly compounds, including methanol, formic acid and urea.

It is worth noting that the Falling Walls Lab is a global forum for presenting innovative ideas and research projects from various fields, in which the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation has been keen to sustain participation since 2016.
