MUSCAT : The Royal Oman Police announced the arrest of two people for fraud and electronic extortion through a social media platform. They impersonated a girl to communicate with the victim, and thereafter blackmailed him to transfer large sums of money.
ROP advises the public not to accept friendships of unknown people on social media portals, or to send any money under any threat. And, in the event of harassment or blackmail, to immediately report it on the toll-free number (80077444) to the Directorate General of Inquiries and Investigations.
