MUSCAT: The project consists of integrating smart systems to protect fishermen and boats from drowning, which includes the clock system, the boat system, the survival system and the coast guard system. Arduino and Wi-Fi were used in the process of linking the embedded systems.
The project won first place in the Artificial Intelligence and Intellectual Property Competition, which was held by the Omani Association for Intellectual Property on November 2.
The key objective of the project was to reduce problems faced by fishermen, as well as drowning cases received by Coast Guard, as many Omanis are engaged in this profession and consider it a major source of income.

The project is based on a watch system, which is worn by the fisherman. The watch contains a sensor to measure heart rate and temperature so that if there is a change in temperature or in the level of the heart rate, it sends a signal to the Coast Guard so that the situation can be dealt with quickly.
The idea of the project was presented at the ‘Dubai Expo 2020’, the Innovation Exhibition at the College of Applied Sciences in Rustaq, the Middle East College and the NXPLORERS platform. The project was also applied as a teaching model at the College of Education in Rustaq.
The smart watch measures the high and low temperature of fishermen and high and low pressure; a signal appears if the fisherman is exposed to an emergency health condition.
