MUSCAT : Data issued by the National Center for Statistics and Information indicated that the total value of fish production increased by 2.2 % to reach OMR 226,465,000, compared to the same period in 2021
Artisanal fishing, which accounts for the majority of Oman’s fish production, decreased by 23.3% to reach 375,992 tons until the end of last July, compared to 489,945 tons in the same period in 2021.
Al Wusta Governorate topped the list of governorates of the Sultanate of Oman in the amount of fish landed by artisanal fishing, with its production reaching 137,382 tons, recording a decrease of 33.1% at the end of July 2022, compared to the same period in 2021.

The Governorate of South Al Sharqiyah came second, with a production quantity of 116,178 tons, a decrease of 25.3%, followed by the Governorate of South and North Al Batinah, with a production quantity of 40,821 tons, a decrease of 1.6%.
Fish production through artisanal fishing in the Governorate of Muscat increased by 21.6% by the end of July 2022, with a production quantity of 19,578 tons, compared to 16,999 tons in the same period in 2021.
The statistics indicated that the commercial and coastal fishing sectors recorded a growth of 21.8% and 8.7%, respectively, and small pelagic fish constituted the largest proportion of the total production of the artisanal fishing sector until the end of July 2022, reaching 193,982 tons, recording a decrease of 32.8%, compared to the previous period.
