MUSCAT : In a twitter announcement shared on its official account, the Ministry said: “The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism would like to warn about the existence of illegal practices of displaying and advertising antiques for sale on websites and social media platforms, which are considered illegal trade in cultural property. The Ministry calls upon the public not to display, advertise or trade in antiques, in accordance with the Omani Cultural Heritage Law, issued by Royal Decree No. 35/2019.
Articles 53 and 54 of Chapter Five, Protection of Heritage, refer to some violations, relating to damage, modifications, defamation, etc. Article 73 of the chapter on penalties stipulates that anyone who violates the provisions of any of Articles 53 and 54 of this law shall be punished with imprisonment for a period of no less than one month and not more than one year, and a fine of no less than OMR 1,000 and not exceeding OMR 50,000, or either of these two penalties.
