Beach Pro World Tour’s Oman leg from Tuesday

Sohar will host the 32 teams from 15 countries while the Sultanate will be represented by five teams.

SOHAR: The world beach volleyball’s Beach Pro Tour’s Oman leg featuring 32 teams from 15 countries will commence here from Tuesday and will conclude on Friday.


The event was sanctioned by FIVB, the world governing body of volleyball and the Oman leg is in the Future category. The other two categories are Challenge and Elite 16.


Sohar is among the 25 cities in the world which host similar events during the year.


The Oman Volleyball Associations has in recent years organized several FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour tournaments.


Being hosts Oman have been allowed to field five teams and include top national players including Haitham Al-Sharqi, Ahmed Al-Hosani, Mazen Al-Hashemi, Hood Al-Jalboubi Noah Al-Jalboubi, Majed Al-Shibli, Muhammad Al-Jabri, Ali Al-Shibli, Al-Mundhir Al-Muzaini and Abdul Salam Al-Shibl.

Teams from Austria, Brazil, Bolivia, Denmark, Egypt, Gambia, Germany, Lebanon, Lithuania, Turkey while two teams from Qatar and Japan while Australia, Czech Republic and China will field three teams each and Latvia will compete with four teams.


The first day’s competitions will witness 12 qualifying matches in which four teams will progress to the next stage. Matches will begin from 7pm.
