MUSCAT: Five private universities in the Sultanate of Oman have managed to enter the QS rankings of Arab universities, according to QS Quacquarelli Symonds, global higher education analyst. It was announced during the QS World Ranking Conference 2023 for the Best Arab Universities held in the Emirate of Dubai, United Arab Emirates last weekend.

The University of Nizwa was ranked at (81-90) and the National University of Science and Technology (101-110). While Dhofar University and the German University of Technology ranked (111 – 120), Sohar University ranked (121 – 130).

Dr. Maryam bint Belarab Al Nabhania, Director General of Private Universities and Colleges at the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation, said: “The participation of universities in international rankings is one of the most important indicators of achieving the desired quality, and this is also reflected in their performance and positive impact at the local, regional and global levels. In addition, this will contribute to its attaining a prominent global position, in order to achieve the objectives of the Oman Vision 2040 by entering four Omani universities within the rank top 150 in the QS Ranking, taking into account the gradual achievement of the goal of entering these five universities into this international classification.”

Al-Nabhani added: “The Ministry seeks to support and support Omani universities to raise the level of quality of higher education in them according to performance indicators, including scientific research, attracting international students, programs for the improvement of various academic programs, and opening wider channels for scientific and academic exchange for students between Omani higher education institutions and their counterparts from universities and colleges around the world, and the ministry is working to implement many events and initiatives related to institutional academic recognition, issued qualifications, and exchange of recognition.
