MUSCAT: A total of 569 violations of the Living Aquatic Resources Law were recorded by the Ministry of Agricultural and Fisheries Wealth and Water Resources (MAFWR), represented by the Department of Fisheries Control and Licensing, during September 2022 alone.
“There were 340 violations in not extracting, renewing or holding licences to practice, boats, ships, transport and marketing, 37 violations of using or possessing prohibited fishing equipment and devices and two violations of hunting or possessing lobster outside the season, or hunting young lobster loaded with eggs,” according to Oman News Agency on Tuesday.
The others were: five violations of fishing or possessing shrimp outside the season; 121 violations of fishing in prohibited areas; 31 violations of not placing plates on boats and ships; 10 violations for hiring unlicensed expatriate workers and 23 other violations-related to fishing activity.

An astonishing 10, 560 kilograms of fish was confiscated while a record 355 prohibited items including 13 boats/vessels, 13 engines and one equipment, 279 fishing nets, 12 cages and 37 of the expatriate workforce were seized or detained by the Department of Fisheries Control and Licensing during September.
