MUSCAT : The conference, held under the patronage of H.E. Sheikh Rashid bin Ahmed Al Shamsi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Development, aimed to clarify medical conditions related to aging, highlight common psychological diseases associated with aging and discuss developments in the treatment of diseases in the aged. It also focused on the physiological changes in the elderly, the medications used, and social issues related to aging.
The conference was attended by psychiatrists, family science specialists and doctors, nurses, technicians, pharmacists, social workers from various institutions, complexes and health centers, and medical staff residing in the Sultanate of Oman.
The conference came out with a number of recommendations, the most important of which is the establishment of a unified national organization in the social and health care of the elderly, and the development of training programs for health workers and community members on how to early detect aging and Alzheimer’s diseases, in addition to activating a law.
