LIWA: Vale Oman Pelletizing Company, one of the biggest mining firms in the Sultanate, has achieved over 75% in Omanisation in their workforce.
The iron ore pelletizing company, headquartered in the Industrial Complex in Liwa wilayat of North Al Batinah governorate, has 75% of its Omani employees in the small workforce category and 80% in the senior management category.
The Sultanate, represented by OQ, owns 30%.

Nasser bin Sulaiman Al-Azri, General Manager of Financial and Administrative Affairs at Vale Oman, said: “We have been here for past 11 years and has invested more than OMR 461.6 million in flourishing local supply chain and another OMR 3.85 million in sustainability and social responsibility initiatives plus OMR 33.5 million in the implementation of safe and environmentally friendly operations.”
Nasser told Oman News Agency on Thursday: “Vale chose Oman to establish in December 2007 with the aim of strengthening its presence in the Gulf region. In March 2009, the company laid the foundation stone for the construction of its industrial complex in Liwa, with a total investment of OMR 480.6 million and started production from 2011.”
Apart from contributing to job opportunities for young Omanis, Vale continues to work with a number of Omani companies and suppliers to ensure that the company’s contribution remains within the Sultanate, thus boosting both the local and national economies.
“Vale has chosen to establish its office in the Sultanate of Oman because it is the gateway to Middle East markets more the availability of pellets, a major component in the production of this type of iron was another advantage,” revealed Nasser.
Vale Oman which now owns a sophisticated iron ore pelletizing plant and has production capacity of 9 million tons, in addition to a distribution center with a capacity of 40 million tons and exported 8.2 million tons of iron ore in 2021.
The company is currently investing in the use of advanced technologies in pelleting and port operation. To comply with the environmental measures and regulations in the Sultanate, the technologies it uses include dust monitoring systems, emissions control, the installation of windbreak fences, the use of solar panels for lighting, in addition to sprinkler systems for pelleting operations.
