Explained: What Oman Labour Law says on leaves

It says that an employee in the Sultanate has the right to an annual leave with a full salary, for a period of not less than 30 days.

MUSCAT : Whether you’re about to start, just started, or have been, for a while, working in Oman, being aware of the Labour Laws is a must, especially about your leaves.

What does the Oman Labour Law say about leaves?

Annual leave

According to Article (61), an employee is eligible for a paid annual leave, for a period of not less than thirty days, upon completion of six months of service with the employer. The employee shall have this leave considering the interest of the work. 

Emergency leave

A worker has the right to an emergency leave with full salary for a period of six days in a year and shall be taken during emergency circumstances. A resolution by the Minister shall regulate the emergency leave for employees and the employee shall not waive the right in this leave.

With the exception of the leaves of juvenile workers, the leave may be divided according to work requirements.

What are the other types of leaves with comprehensive pay mentioned in the Oman labour law?

An employee is entitled to a special leave with full pay in following cases:

* Three days in the event of his marriage and it is not given to him more than once during the duration of his service

*Three days in the event of the death of a son, daughter, mother, father, wife, grandfather, grandmother, brother or sister

* Two days in the event of the death of the uncle or aunt

*15 days to perform Haj once throughout the period of his service, provided that the worker has spent a continuous year in the service of the employer

* 15 days per year to take the exam for the Omani worker who is affiliated to study at a school, institute, college or university

* 130 days for a working Muslim wife in the event of the death of her husband.
