MUSCAT: The third edition of Oman Science Festival with a motto ‘Together we live the passion for science’ began at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Center on Monday.
The six-day show on the Sultanate’s might in science was inaugurated by Eng. Saeed bin Hamoud Al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, in the presence of Dr Madiha bint Ahmed Al Shibaniyah, Minister of Education.
At least 110 government, private, military and civil institutions and bodies, 1,000 participants with 452 activities, interactive scientific seminars, scientific exhibitions of innovations, experiments and scientific competitions, lectures and discussion sessions and scientific theatre have been scheduled during the festival days.
The participation of military authorities and scientists in the Sultanate is the highlight while visitors can watch 25 sci fi movies and compete in various competitions like hackathons, programming, robots, drones, and the scientific theatre at Ahmed bin Majid Theatre and Ibn Al-Haytham Theatre.
Interactive platforms for sponsors, pavilions for innovators, memorabilia, cyber-security in addition to lectures and scientific discussion sessions too have been scheduled.

School students, teachers and parents, government and private higher education institutions, researchers, scientists, specialists and academics, government and private institutions and bodies concerned with science and technology, civil society institutions, and those interested in science from various countries in the regions are expected to participate.
The festival is held on 12,000 square meters including 70 pavilions for health, education, the trade and economy, 75 scientific innovations exhibitions apart from space and aviation sciences, food security, artificial intelligence, the environment, and for international organizations, agencies and institutions. ‘Wonders of the Universe’ interactive sessions on cosmic, nuclear sciences for peace with the highly acclaimed International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) are expected to be the top draws.
