MUSCAT: According to the third edition of Political Participation Index, the State of Kuwait has retained first place with a score of 534 out of a total of 1000 points on the GCC Index (which means 9 degrees higher compared to last year), followed by the State of Qatar, which rose to the second place, with a score of 453, which means 6 degrees higher.
The Sultanate of Oman ranked third with a score of 439. The Kingdom of Bahrain remained in fourth place with a score of 438, followed by the United Arab Emirates in fifth place with a score of 320, and then Saudi Arabia in the last place with a score of 233.
The results of the index issued by the Gulf House Foundation for Studies and Publishing illustrate the need for the Gulf Cooperation Council countries to expand frameworks for political participation and decision-making, especially strengthening and expanding the powers of elected councils, improving election laws, promoting equal citizenship, and ensuring freedom of opinion and expression and the safety of individuals.
