PARIS: Argentine star Lionel Messi has confirmed that the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar will be his last.
“It’s my last World Cup, surely. I feel good physically, I was able to do a very good pre-season this year, which I couldn’t do last year. It was essential to get to where I am, with a good state of mind and a lot of hope,” said Argentina captain on Thursday.
“This will be my last World Cup, yes,” Messi said in statements to the Argentine network Star Plus, according to Oman News Agency.

The 35-year-old made debut in 2005 and now has represented Argentina in 164 matches scoring 90 goals and will be playing his fifth World Cup starting in Qatar from November 20.
The striker who plays for French club Paris Saint-Germain will try to win the tournament for the first time in his career, after helping his country win the Copa America last year.
Argentina is in Group C along with Poland, Saudi Arabia and Mexico.
The last international competition Messi won was the Copa America in 2021 when they defeated Brazil in the final.
