MUSCAT: The energetic and ambitious Zulal Student Company at the University of Technology and Applied Sciences, here, has solved a way to treat water with sustainable natural ingredients. The 12-member team made environmentally friendly filter cartridges that revitalize water thus helping retain the majority of the salt (sodium chloride) component present in the water that the human body needs.
While the imported candles used now a days for water treatment, removes a large proportion of salt element in the water during treatment.
“What distinguishes Zulal Company is that it is the first Omani company in the field of making 100% natural water filter cartridges that revitalize water, adding that the team’s journey to the My Company competition that lasted 12 months, starting from studying to planning, which lasted two months. The idea from the presence of wasted natural resources in the Sultanate and a qualitative leap will occur in the Omani market,” said Samia Al Riyami, CEO of the company.

During the finishing part of the product, the team worked with the Luna Star Laboratory, Anotek, Sultan Qaboos University, Salem Al Shaqsi Pottery Factory and Al-Adawi Factory.

The team won the title of Best Sustainable Product for 2022 in the universities and colleges category. The team was also nominated in the prestigious INJAZ Oman competition for Best Visual Presentation and Best Student Company categories. INJAZ Oman, founded in 1919, is a part of junior achievements worldwide and works in 124 countries.
