MUSCAT: An Omani excavation team in the Sultanate of Oman has unearthed remains of civilizations from different periods dating back 3000 years back in the wilayat of Qurayat, about 100 km from Muscat.
Dr Mohammed bin Abdulhamid al Hussain, Head of Department of Archaeology, College of Arts and Social Sciences at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), who led the team, said the survey focuses on Al Mazarei village in the wilayat of Qurayat and the surrounding areas.

“The buildings which were unearthed at some site shows the level of the architectural development back then as some of these settlements contained huge buildings with a great number of square and rectangular chambers constructed of stones,” the excavation team captain said and added that the project is funded by the SQU and the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism
“We aim to document the archaeological sites in Muscat and draw a risk map of these sites and make proposals on how to benefit these sites in line with Oman Vision 2040,” concluded Dr Mohammed bin Abdulhamid al Hussain.
