MUSCAT: Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) has signed six deals that will benefit local communities and promote sustainable development across the Sultanate.
The signing ceremony was held in the presence of Dr. Hilal bin Ali Al-Sabti, Minister of Health here on Thursday.
The initiatives – valued at more than $2.2 million – include various projects in several key areas like health, safety, environment, education and infrastructure sectors.

In the health sector, the company will finance the purchase of medical equipment for the Royal Hospital to enhance its capacity.
The company will also support the activities of the Omani Society for Hereditary Blood Diseases by developing a mobile phone application to facilitate blood donation, fund medical training for health workers, purchase syringe pumps and joint replacement operations.
Engineer Abdul-Amir bin Abdul-Hussein Al-Ajmi, Executive Director of External Affairs and Value Added at PDO, said that these initiatives will empower the residents and promote sustainable development and PDO will finance the construction of a central nursery in the Al Wusta Governorate, along with developing the infrastructure of the land and constructing a fence.
This project will not only supply seedlings to the company’s concession area, but this agricultural activity will contribute to obtaining carbon credits.
He added that the company will also finance the establishment of two public parks in the areas of Al Ghubrah North and Al Ghubrah Al Janoubia in the Wilayat of Al Jazer.
In the education sector, and with the aim of supporting the teaching of science, technology, engineering and mathematics subjects, the company will sponsor a program that aims to teach science subjects in an interactive way that motivates students to develop their creativity and innovation skills.
At least 11 schools in the Sultanate will be provided with curricula and materials for science classes, audio-visual technology equipment and laboratory furniture.
He explained that the company will finance the project to increase the number of classrooms in 12 schools and to establish additional classrooms in Al-Najd School in the Wilayat of Thumrait and the Kubot School in the Wilayat of Shaleem and the Hallaniyat Islands.
