MUSCAT: Engineer Saeed Hamoud Al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, has said that the railway network project linking Oman the United Arab Emirates (UAE) achieves the strategic goals of the two brotherly countries.
The rail project will open up both social and economic aspects due to the fact that it bolster ties between Sohar Port and the UAE’s free zones and economic zones, Al Ma’awali pointed out.
“The project is envisaged to play a major role in boosting the logistics sector and activating commercial exchange in the near future,” said Al Ma’awali adding that the project will achieve sustainable development at all economic and social levels and also provide a new model for cross-border transport.

The minister stressed that the project serves as one of the factors of industrial localization, as it links industrial areas, eases the traffic of raw materials and provides an attractive platforms for industrialists, companies, investors and manufacturers.
The project which includes the construction of a 303-kilometre railway linking Sohar and Abu Dhabi, the minister said a joint technical team from both the countries have decided the standards to be maintained while laying the railway track with a speed of 200km/hour for the passenger train and 120km/hour for goods trains.
