MUSCAT : GlamHomes Cricket Team, which is making debut in the A-Division league of the Oman Cricket from October 15, was re-launched by Indian Ambassador to the Sultanate Amit Narang in the presence of more than 50 corporate.

GlamHomes is the new title sponsor for the team and its owner Idris Solanki had big plans to invest for the development of the team to new heights. “Cricket is my passion and we have a very good side. I expect the best of players in Oman to drop a sweat, just with the thought of playing with us. We are a very balanced side and we expect to dominate,” Solanki said.

“I am more than impressed by the growth of cricket in Oman in the last 5 years. Already a lot of international teams have started to consider Oman just like their home ground. Should international

franchises come into Oman, it would be a massive boost. Our best wishes to the entire team and we

hope that, this upcoming season is a major factor for growth of this team,” Narang observed

The team, managed by B&M Events and owned by Imran Behlim, said that a lot of international franchises showed their interest last year. The team is focused to be the first ever international franchise soon.

Pranav Mehta, team co-owner, suggested that a tie up with these international franchises would be a massive boost. “This tie up would make us a specialized cricket club and hence we will target to participate in the intra-club championships, which are already a popular aspect in our neighboring countries. The most important aspect is that, our players would get a lot of exposure and self-belief,” he said.

Ahmed Khan, another team co-owner, felt that globalization and diversification is of prime focus to major organizations. “These big league franchises have a lot of gain with these tie ups. To start with, these team have in-house professional hired for through the year, which can be delegated to the smaller leagues. It would also allow them to throw in their benched players into stable waters, before they get their opportunities into the rough waters.”

GlamHomes Cricket Team, now has two Indians, Pakistanis each and one Bangladeshi as owners. The team was launched in 2019 by the previous Indian Ambassador to Oman, Munu Muhawar.

In the first season 2019-2020, the team finished fourth in 50 Over A-division League and was on the top when T20 tournament was called off. In the second season (2020-2021), the team finished as champions of 50 over A-Division league and it was on top of T20. The team was promoted to premier division last season (2021-2022) it won record 10 games on the trot.

Captain Ahmed Khan said; “This is definitely the first of its kind and the team success will help boost the local cricket in Oman.”
