MUSCAT: The United Nations health agency World Health Organization (WHO) has reported that cancer, diabetes, respiratory and heart diseases which are preventable non-communicable diseases (NCDs), cause over 74% of global deaths.
The report added that NCDs the result of unhealthy lifestyles or living conditions, lead to the death of 41 million people annually, including 17 million under the age of 70 years.
Majority of these diseases can be prevented if an early action is taken and there should collective efforts to reduce the risk factors for NCDs which could save lives

According to the report, NCDs also increase a person’s risk of dying or becoming seriously ill from an infectious disease.
The report pointed out that residents of developing countries are more likely to die from non-communicable diseases due to the lack of health care.
