BEIJING: A number of Chinese scientists have developed a face mask that can detect viral exposure by talking for 10 minutes with an infected person.

And the Chinese news agency, Xinhua, stated that the mask can detect common respiratory viruses in the air, including influenza and the Corona virus, which are present in fine mists, as the mask alerts the wearer through their mobile devices.

According to the published study, a highly sensitive face mask can measure liquid samples as low as 0.3 microliters and gas samples at ultra-low concentrations of 0.1 femtograms per milliliter.

A mask can detect fluid containing viral proteins in a closed room about 70 to 560 times less than the volume of fluid produced by a single sneeze, and much less than the volume produced by coughing or speaking.
