MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman welcomed the report of the Special Rapporteur on the right to development during the 51st Regular Session of the UN Human Rights Council.

Counselor Fahd bin Sulaiman Al Kharousi, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Sultanate to the United Nations in Geneva, said in his speech at the session of the UNHRC that humanity faced many challenges during the Covid-19 pandemic. The international community adhered to the principles of solidarity, cooperation and joint response to confront these challenges, to strengthen aspects of development, to achieve prosperity and well-being for the people.

He explained the Sultanate took many measures to control the spread of Covid by forming a committee led by the top leader which followed the developments keenly and sought to unify national efforts to address the pandemic and provide social and health protection for all its citizens and residents.

During the pandemic, the Sultanate ensured that the citizens irrespective of health, social and economic status received the desired result.

“We lifted the restrictions imposed during the pandemic quickly after the crisis was dealt with and the public resumed normal life,” he concluded.
