MUSCAT: Oman’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said “light injuries” were reported among some passengers of an Air India Express flight that caught fire minutes before take-off at Muscat International Airport on Wednesday.
In a statement issued, CAA said all passengers were safely evacuated from IX 442 after after fire was detected in one of the engines just before take-off.
All crew and the 141 passengers on board, four of them infants, were evacuated from the aircraft and shifted to the terminal building. As panicked passengers scrambled for emergency exit door which ended in a melee and stampede. “Light injuries were dealt with as a result of a stampede of passengers during the evacuation process,” CAA informed. However, CAA did not disclose the total number of passengers injured.

Air India Express said it is arranging a relief plane to take the passengers from Muscat.
