Oman’s Al Seeb Club storm into final

Al Seeb Club sneaked past Arabi SC of Kuwait 2-1 in the extra time of the AFC Cup West Zone semifinals

MUSCAT: Oman’s Al Seeb Club won hearts and brought smiles not just to football fans or sport loving citizens. Their pulsating victory over Arabi SC of Kuwait has lifted the morale of the people who were suffering from an unprecedented and rare power outage in five governorates of the Sultanate from Monday afternoon.

In a nail biting semifinal match at Kuwait City on Monday night, Al Seeb Club marched past hosts Arabi SC 2-1 via extra time.

According to reports reaching here, Seeb coached by Stan were dominating the entire match including the regulation 90 minutes even though both the rivals failed to break the deadlock.

The defenders were tight even as strikers took chances but in vain. Seeb’s goalkeeper Ahmed Al Rawah stood like under bar.

In the 95th minute, Muhsen Al Ghassani rattled the Kuwaiti outfit’s net and two minutes later, Ghassani and Salah Al Yehyaei played long diagonal balls beating Arabi ‘keeper Sulaiman Abdulghafoor as Al Yahaei breached the goal for Seeb for second time.

Kingsley Eduwo reduced the arrears for Al Arabi in the 115th minute.

The West Zone final will be played on October 4.


Al Seeb Club will face the winners of the all- Bahraini match between East Riffa and Riffa SC in the second West Zone semifinals to be held on Tuesday at Muharraq Stadium (Bahrain).
