Explained: What was the cause of Oman’s electricity outage?

Nama Group has clarified about the reason behind the power outage.

MUSCAT: Electricity is gradually being restored in Oman following a massive power cut across the country, which led to most wilayats reporting outages.

In a statement issued, a top Nama Group official said the authority has ordered an investigation into the incident.

Nama Group clarified that the reason for the interruption was a technical malfunction in one of the transmission lines of the network.

Hassan bin Ali Al Ajmi, Director of Commercial readiness of the group. “Work is underway to develop a clear strategy in risk management and investigate its causes to avoid this type of malfunction in the coming period,” he said.

Airport operations were partially affected, traffic signals failed causing huge traffic hurdles in Muscat, while many shops were forced to close due to the power outage. Internet and mobile phone services were also disrupted in many places forcing people to leave home early from work.
