Twenty-five years ago, a young actor stormed Malayalam cinema in the role of a chocolate hero that the audience loved. He became a sensation since then, thanks to his charm and grace.  

That incredibly gifted actor, Kunchacko Boban, has now turned into the most dependable actor in the industry taking some of the challenging roles by his stride. His latest film Nna, Thaan Case Kodu is making waves, as the stunning Kunchacko outdoes himself with a performance that would rank among his best.

I have been a proud Kunchacko Boban fan since the time I watched his debut film Aniyathipravu — Fazil’s 1997 romantic drama opposite Shalini which became the highest-grossing Malayalam film till then. Ever since then, I made sure to watch all his films on the first day of their release. But what astonished me is the way Chackochan (as we fondly call him) has changed his image as an actor over the last many years. He has been upping his game for quite some time, renewing his image in the process. 

Nna, Thaan Case Kodu scripted and directed by the award-winning Ratheesh Poduvaltalks about the commoner’s unlikely-to-win battle, has Chackochan springing many surprises, especially in the courtroom. Even impressive dance steps in the ‘Devadoothar Paadi’ song sequence’ also went viral on social media. 

I have seen this close transformation of Kunchacko in Ranjith Sankar’s Ramante Eden Thottam as well. Since then he has been at his consistent best playing out roles after roles with utmost ease. 

Nizhal and Nayattu also show how much he has evolved as an actor. Nayattu grabbed nationwide interest after its release on Netflix. The fact that he can pull off a romantic movie and a thriller at ease shows the stature of Kunchacko as an actor. I think he will surely spring many more surprises in the coming years.
