MUSCAT: The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism on Sunday said many violations were observed in several four and five star rated hotels in the country following a surprise inspection by the Omani authorities.

In a statement issued, the Ministry said the authorities visited some four and five star hotels in Muscat and Dhofar governorates. However, the Ministry did not name the hotels but has confirmed that “necessary legal action will be taken against these properties.”

Last week, the Ministry announced that it will commence surprise inspections of hotels and tourist establishments to ensure that the properties are in full compliance with their assigned star ratings and quality standards.

“We have recently completed surprise visits to four and 5 stars hotels in both Muscat and Dhofar governorate during which many violations were observed. The concerned departments are in the process of taking necessary legal action against them,” the Ministry said.

“We will continue this process of visiting hotels on a regular basis,” the statement added.
