MUSCAT: In the Wilayat of Ibri, the Omani Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) detained an expatriate who was in possession of more than 14,000 packs of chewing tobacco.

“The department searched and verified the information, and then coordinated with the Public Prosecution Department in Al Dhahirah Governorate and the Al Dhahirah Police Command to raid the worker’s site. Here more than 14,000 bags of chewing tobacco were seized in his possession,” the authority said,

This goes against Resolution No. (256/2015), which was revised by Resolution No. (301/2016), which prohibits the sale of chewed (non-smoked) tobacco.

The authority has been taking efforts, represented by its various directorates and departments in various governorates, to combat the spread of prohibited substances to safeguard the health and safety of the individual and society.
