MUSCAT: Expatriate constitute about 64 per cent of the total workers in Oman labour market.
According to a report published by Al Shabiba newspaper stated that 773,786 Omani citizens are working in the country. “Omani males constituted 72% of Omani workers, compared to 28% of Omani women,” the report stated.
The number of foreign workers reached 1,384,833 “which constitute about 64% of the total workers in the Sultanate of Oman.”

The report also highlighted the educational qualifications across all sectors. According to the report, 22.8% (492,431) of total workers in the country are classified under “reads and writes”. Interestingly, over 688,000 workers are without a general education diploma. In other words, more than half of the workers in the Omani labour market do not have any educational qualifications.
The labour force indicators revealed that there were 2,158,619 workers in various sectors in the Sultanate during the year 2021. According to statistics, male workers of all nationalities constitute 82% of the total workers in the Sultanate of Oman, where their number reached 1,773,744 male workers compared to 358,545 female workers.
By sectors, the number of employees in the government sector reached 392,872 of all nationalities. This compares to 1,482,180 workers in the private sector, and 283,567 workers in the family sector.
The figures revealed that the number of Omanis working in the government sector is 351,231 male and female citizens, compared to 41,641 foreign workers. Omanisation rate is about 89% in the public sector.
