Oman issues alert for heavy rains

CAA said heavy rainfall is expected to fall on Tuesday and Wednesday in many parts of Oman including Muscat in the of 20 to 100 mm.

MUSCAT: Ahead of heavy rainfall in many parts of Oman this week, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), has urged the public to take “maximum protection and to stay alert.”

In a statement issued, CAA said heavy rainfall is expected to fall on Tuesday (July 26) and Wednesday (July 27), in the range of 20 to 100 mm.

Forecast of upcoming days:

Tuesday 26, July 2022:
Clouds Advection over most governorates of Sultanate of Oman with chances of heavy thundershowers with different intensities over South Al Sharqiyah, North At Sharqiyah, Muscat, Al Dakhilia, and south At Batinah governorates where it extends to cover North Al Batinah, Musandam, Al Dhahira and Al Buraimi governorates.

Wednesday 27, July 2022:
Continuation of cloud advection over most governorates of Sultanate of Oman with higher intensity of thundershower along Muscat, South Al Batinah, North At Batinah and Musandam. Also, it may extends to cover the South At Sharqiyah, North At Sharqiyah, Al Dakhlia, Al Dhahira and At Buraimi.

The expected impacts for Tuesday and Wednesday:
High amount of Rainfall may vary between (20 – 100 mm) where it lead to the flow of wadies along with chances of water extending over some parts of low areas.

Fresh winds between 20-40 knots (40-80 km/h) where it may cause flaying of unstable objects and materials.

Decrease in horizontal visibility to below 500 m during heavy thundershowers.

The sea state will be rough along coastal areas with a maximum height of 4 meters.
