Oman closes all tourist sites due to inclement weather

The decision comes after several missing cases and deaths were reported in parts of Oman.

MUSCAT: All tourist sites in Oman will be temporarily closed due to the inclement weather conditions, the Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority (CDAA) announced on Sunday.

The decision comes after several missing cases and deaths were reported in parts of Oman. Several parts of the Sultanate is witnessing heavy rainfall, and flash floods.

On Sunday, an eight member expat family fell into the sea after they crossed the cliff in Al Mughsayl beach in Dhofar Governorate. CDAA also reported deaths of two Omani citizens in Suhar after their vehicle swept away in Wadi Ahan.

“Due to large number of reports, and non-adherence to instructions, directives, and warnings, CDAA calls upon all the citizens, residents and visitors to Oman visiting tourist attractions, that until this situation ends, such sites will be closed, and they will not be allowed to be approached,” CDAA said on Sunday.

“The authority calls on everyone to abide by the warnings and the need to cooperate with the Authority and the parties concerned, and to abide by the instructions intended protect lives and maintain public safety,” the statement added.
