MUSCAT: The Ministry of Agricultural Wealth, Fisheries and Water Resources has formed a task force to put an end to digging of unlicensed wells.
According to a circulating decision, the task force is headed by the Director General of the Water Department, the Director General of Operations at the Royal Oman Police, the Director General of Labor Welfare at the Ministry of Labour, the Assistant Public Prosecutor, the Director of the Legal Department and the Director of the Water Licensing Department.

Develop an action plan to restrict digging of unlicensed wells.
Controlling expatriate workers who practice unlicensed drilling of wells.
Monitoring of the violating and non-compliant drilling equipment.
Working on the immediate removal of unlicensed wells.
Forming joint sub-teams in the governorates to work with the approved mechanisms and procedures.
According to the regulations regulating the protection of water resources in the Sultanate, the penalty for digging a new well or increasing the capacity of the well without a license is a crime punishable by up to one year in prison and a fine of OMR 2000.
