MUSCAT: A new report by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has stated that the Sultanate of Oman has made great achievements in achieving food security.
The Sultanate has been ranked 29th globally in the index among the Arab countries for making great strides in terms of food security.
The report added that the agricultural sector plays an important economic and social role in the sustainable development of the Sultanate of Oman.

It pointed that the remarkable cooperation existing between the Sultanate and the FAO on the sustainable and urban development strategy which falls under the framework of Oman Vision 2040.
The report stated that 89 percent of the farms in the Sultanate of Oman are small family farms. These family farms represent 80 percent of agricultural output in the Near East region. This includes the Sultanate, which plays an important role in achieving food security.
The importance of moving forward in support of farmers’ unions helps to overcome obstacles in increasing agricultural production, while supporting innovation, the report stated.
