MUSCAT: The Shura Council hosted His Excellency Dr. Khalfan bin Saeed Al-Shaaili, Minister of Housing and Urban Planning, in its 15th regular session of the third annual session of the ninth period.
The minister was hosted to discuss several topics, including public policies for housing and urban planning, studying the reality of land reconstruction, and partnership with the private sector.
His Excellency indicated that the ministry has completed the preparation of drafts of the law “real estate development, unified addressing system and expropriation for the public benefit.” The ministry is also working on a draft of the draft amendment of the land registry system, the housing law and the urban planning law.

His Excellency confirmed that the ministry is working on completing the distribution of land needed to cover 23,000 applications in accordance with high orders and standards. It is also working on intensifying its efforts to make these lands within the plans of the basic services as much as possible.
His Excellency said the ministry has made strides in achieving digital readiness by launching a number of digital platforms that have had a significant positive impact on governance, transparency and oversight, and the speed of transaction completion.
His Excellency stated that the ministry has supported the real estate sector by reducing the rate of fees for the sale of land from 5% to 3%. The number of legal actions reached more than 205,000 between last year until April 2022 with a trading value of more than OMR 3.2 billion.
