MUSCAT: His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik on Thursday appointed His Excellency Salim Al Aufi as the new Minister of Energy and Minerals.
Al Aufi who was previously the Undersecretary in the energy ministry will succeed the long-serving Dr Mohammed bin Hamad Al Rumhi as the new minister.
Al Aufi has a Masters in Petroleum Engineering from HeriotWatt University. He Joined Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) in 1992, and progressed within the organization in different technical and leadership roles, which culminated in him becoming the Oil North Director in 2010.

In his career spanning well over 20 years, Al Aufi held different local and international positions, including PDO’s Head of Corporate Planning, Chief Petroleum Engineering and Operation Manager.
In May 2012, the late His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said appointed Al Aufi as the Chief Executive Officer of the Public Authority for Civil Aviation and in December 2013, he was appointed as the Undersecretary for the Ministry of Energy and Minerals.
