MUSCAT: Oman represented by the Environment Authority, will be participating in an event to celebrate the World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought.

The World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought is observed every year on June 17, to promote public awareness of international efforts to combat desertification. The day is a unique moment to remind everyone that land degradation neutrality is achievable through problem-solving, strong community involvement and co-operation at all levels.

This year, the theme of the International Day Against Desertification, and Drought “Rising up from drought together”, emphasises the need of an early action to avoid disastrous consequences for humanity and the planetary ecosystems, the United Nations website says.

Oman’s participation in the event focuses on educating the community to conserve wild plants, combat desertification and increasing green cover, the Environment Authority said.
