Omani woman secures membership to UN’s child rights body

Dr. Thuwaiba Ahmed Al Barwaniya is now a member of the Committee on the Rights of the Child (CRC)

MUSCAT: An Omani woman has been nominated to the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child (CRC).

“We congratulate Professor Dr. Thuwaiba Ahmed Al Barwaniya for securing the membership in the Committee on the Rights of the Child with a majority vote at the meeting of the States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of the Child in New York. We wish her success in all her endeavours,” the Ministry of Foreign said.

The Committee on the Rights of the Child (CRC) is a group of 18 independent professionals that oversees the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child by its States Parties, according to the United Nations Human Rights. It also ensures the implementation of the Convention’s Optional Protocols on the role of minors in armed conflict, as well as the sale, prostitution, and pornography of children.
