MUSCAT: The European Union (EU) will approve exempting Omani citizens from the Schengen visa in two weeks, a top official has informed.

Speaking at a press conference Enrique Mora, Deputy Secretary-General for Political Affairs and Political Director of the European External Action Service said: “The EU will approve exempting Omani citizens from Schengen visa. The confirmation will come in two weeks.”

He also emphasised the “historic role” of the Sultanate of Oman and its efforts in resolving many regional and international issues, especially with regard to the Iranian nuclear issues.

“There are ongoing negotiations with the GCC countries related to free trade, and the European Union looks forward to increasing cooperation with countries in the region in the areas of maritime security, training and energy,” Mora said.

He also described Oman’s 2040 vision as “ambitious” as it includes several axes and in different aspects.

His Excellency Sheikh Khalifa bin Ali Al Harthy, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Diplomatic Affairs said that European Union will will be open an office on Muscat.

“The relations between the Sultanate of Oman and the countries of the European Union are developed and growing, and the Sultanate welcomes the European partnership strategy with the countries of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf and looks forward to strengthening relations in various field,” he added.
